Chief Executive Officer

Thomas has 16 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Prior to establishing Piñon, he worked for Occidental, specializing in production, completions, operations, artificial lift, and facilities engineering, with a focus on the Permian Basin, South Texas, and Iraq. He holds a BS in Engineering from Southern Methodist University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and is a licensed Professional Engineer.

Vice President, Land and Business Development

A Midland native, Doug brings nearly 18 years of extensive land and business development experience to the team. Prior to establishing Piñon, Doug spent nearly a decade at Concho Resources, where he helped establish their business development team and worked on every major acquisition and divestiture process from 2009 to 2017. Doug holds a BA and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Chief Financial Officer

Ahmed brings 20 years of experience to the Piñon team. Before joining Piñon, Ahmed worked as an Investment Banker at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. in Houston, focusing on acquisitions and divestitures across the Lower 48, with a major focus on the Permian Basin. Prior to that, Ahmed held various technical and strategy roles at Shell Exploration and Production and Schlumberger. Ahmed holds a BS and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MEng from Rice University.

Vice President, Geology

Greg brings industry-leading Permian knowledge to our team. With over 42 years of experience, Greg has been involved in all aspects of subsurface evaluation, including prospect generation, exploration, and operations. Before joining Piñon, Greg served as the Permian Geological Advisor for EOG Resources, where he also guided them in drilling their first-ever horizontal well in the Permian. Prior to EOG, Greg worked for ARCO and several independent operators. Greg holds a BS and an MS in Geology from Texas A&M University.

Vice President, Operations

Rand brings 19 years of hands-on experience to Piñon. Before joining Piñon, Rand worked for several operators, including EOG Resources, Quicksilver, and WBH Energy Partners, where he drilled and completed hundreds of wells in the Anadarko, Appalachian, Delaware, Fort Worth, Gulf Coast, and Permian Basins. With extensive expertise in drilling, completions, production, reservoir engineering, A&D, and operations management, Rand is instrumental in overseeing Piñon's day-to-day field operations. Rand holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Vice President, Drilling

With 16 years of industry experience at leading energy companies, including Colgate Energy (now Permian Resources), Diamondback, and Chesapeake, Rafael brings a deep expertise in drilling operations and project management.

During his tenure at Colgate Energy, Rafael successfully managed a six-rig drilling program, overseeing the safe and efficient execution of 173 wells. With a strong focus on safety, cost management, and continuous drilling time improvements, he played a pivotal role in optimizing operational efficiency and performance.

Rafael holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Texas Tech University
